We relocated to the east coast, near Washington, DC, approximately 10 years ago. In all of that time, we haven’t had the joy of a white Christmas, nor have we seen the National Christmas Tree, in person. It was long past time to make at least one of those two things happen.

Looking for Christmas

Over the years I’ve written several posts about DC. We like to think of the city as our neighboring backyard. We love to explore and discover new places, and we like to play tourist guide to visiting friends. It’s a beautiful pedestrian friendly city, and it is so much more than politics. The city has an incredible display of architecture, acres of green space, museums galore and a delicious food scene.

During the holiday season, the city is decked out in twinkling splendor and this year we made a point of looking for Christmas in DC. It’s fairly certain we will not see snow on December 25 this year, but we did spend a day and evening looking for festive cheer around the city. We were not disappointed.

O Christmas Tree

As we explored the city we were in awe of the multitude of beautiful trees on display, seemingly around every corner. It was exactly what we were looking for, the magic of the season. The more decorated trees we found, the more I found myself humming the classic tune, “O Christmas Tree”.

  • O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
    Your branches green delight us
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
    Your branches green delight us
  • They are green when summer days are bright
They are green when winter snow is white
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
    Your branches green delight us

A German carol titled, “O Tannenbaum” the song became popular in the United States and England in the 19th century. The author of the original carol is apparently unknown.

Inspiration

I was so inspired by the tune, I used it as background music for our Youtube video in which we feature the twinkling highlights of our day, and evening, spent exploring the city.

The Best of the Season

However you spend the holidays, or not, we wish you all the best of the season. And, it is our fervent hope that we will all experience peace, health and happiness in the new year. We’d also like to thank each and every one of you who’ve continued to travel along with us. Cheers!
