2024. In many ways, the days of 2024 passed in the blink of an eye. But, the year also seemed to be one relentlessly long election year. Although we had a good year, we are happy to put 2024, and the election, on the shelf and get on with the business of living.

This morning, as I write, the temperature outside is 14 degrees with 15 mph winds and there is six inches of snow on the ground. A cold start to 2025. I’m a big fan of winter and snow, but there are days when it’s a bit too much. Waking up to 8 degrees falls into the “a bit too much” category.

2024 – That’s a Wrap!

With all of that being said, here’s a look at the highlights of what we got up to in 2024. If any of our travels speak to you, feel free to reach out for travel tips and suggestions. We’re always happy to answer questions.

Spring

Spring found us spending one week on Martha’s Vineyard (Massachusetts) and three weeks in Scotland including the Lake District in Northwest England.

Martha’s Vineyard

We’re quite fortunate in that we have extended family who own a vacation home on Martha’s Vineyard. We spent the week with family and while it was a cold week, in March, we also enjoyed a few days of warmth under the sun. We love visiting the island and while not much changes from year to year, we always seem to find our way to new adventures.

Scotland & The Lake District

We’d never been to Scotland, so when the opportunity popped up we jumped. And, we jumped quickly as it was just a couple of weeks after arriving home from Martha’s Vineyard that we were off again. We flew to Edinburgh and spent two nights acclimating. We took a train to Stirling where we joined Scotland Folk Tours and had an amazing 10-day adventure that included four days in the Lake District in northwest England. After saying good-bye to our new found tour friends we spent three days in Glasgow and five more days in Edinburgh. To say we had an extraordinary adventure, is an understatement at best.

Summer

Summer found us heading north to Canada in an attempt to escape the summer humidity and bug population of home. That, and we were longing for a return visit to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. We were there a couple of years ago, but only for three days, and we definitely left wanting more. So, we made it happen. It was a fantastic road trip!

Fall

Fall found us exploring our own backyard so-to-speak. We have a map with a big circle encompassing a 200-mile radius from which we plan our adventures. We made our way to Pennsylvania to visit the Flight 93 Memorial and the town of Gettysburg, and the Gettysburg Battlefield. One of our expeditions took us on a search for historic covered bridges. And, we spent a day enjoying the fall colors in Shenandoah National Park, but somehow I forgot to write a post about it. My bad.

Winter

In December we took ourselves to Washington, DC, one of our favorite cities, to embrace the season and to seek out the spirit of Christmas. It did not disappoint.
